About Rebecca (Classy)

My name is Rebecca Odell, and I am the “classy” component in this dynamic duo.  I am a soon-to-be Kent State University public relations graduate seeking job opportunities in Columbus, Ohio.

I am a social media enthusiast (although many of my friends would choose “nerd” over “enthusiast”) with two years of internship experience in my public relations tool belt.  I interned with Flash Communications in 2008 and recently completed a one-year internship with the Public Relations and Marketing Department at Akron Children’s Hospital.  In January 2010, I took on a new role as the public relations/social media intern at AKHIA Public Relations & Marketing Communications.  In May, I will join Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s interactive marketing team as a post-graduate intern.

I was the online media manager for Kent State’s Public Relations Student Society of America Chapter for the 2008-2009 academic year, and now I’m serving as the vice president of public relations.  I had the opportunity to attend two PRSSA national conferences during my college years; they were a blast!  It’s so refreshing to meet young professionals who are passionate about the profession.

During my time at Kent State, I’ve gained experience in journalistic writing, media relations, social media, blogging, search engine optimization, case study writing, publication design, public speaking, spokesperson training and the development and implementation of public relations campaigns. I worked in teams of five to create two full-blown public relations campaigns for real-world clients: the Consumer Bankers Association and the Cleveland Plus Marketing Alliance.

Although I love health care public relations, I am eager to learn more about all aspects of the profession.  My dream job would integrate my love for social media and health care, but I’m open to try anything!

Three random facts:

  1. I’m a coffee addict.  I love coffee and everything that comes with it: quaint coffee shops, paisley-printed ceramic coffee cups, exotic-sounding creamers, etc.  My next home has to be located near a good coffee shop!  It’s essential.
  2. I could watch HGTV all day.  I love houses and interior design; however, I never watch television!
  3. I love vintage items, especially if they’re blue and/or damask.  I inherited a gorgeous eggshell-blue salt and pepper shaker set from my grandma.

What’s on my iPod: My favorite songs and artists change frequently.  My current jams are old-school Switchfoot, Fun., The Format, Snow Patrol and Anberlin.

My favorite quote: “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” -Winston Churchill

My favorite fun fact about Shantae: Shantae always thinks of the best metaphors.  She’s the only person I know who would compare love to a sandwich and make it sound profound!

My favorite quote is by Winston Churchill: “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.”
